The Final Interview of the 2011 66 City Tour with Rev. Victor Robert Farrell

From September 11th until November 16th 2011 — In commemoration of the 400th anniversary Rev. Victor Robert Farrell toured the 66 Cities of the United Kingdom in travelling 6,500 miles in just 66 Days speaking from each of the 66 Books if the Bible to whoever would listen. This post tour interview was recorded on December 5th 2011 18 days after the tour was complete. I hope you are blessed and chalenged by it.

5 QUESTIONS & Their Answers & Some Observations

Each interview I carried out in the 66 Cities with such a variety of people from Heroine addicts High profile public servants consisted some basic Questions

1. Is Britain Broken, Why and Who Broke It?
2. Is The Church Relevent?
3. Is The Bible Relevent?
4. Is Preaching Relevent & How Can We Better Preach?
5. How Can We Fix Britain?

The lists below are THEIR ANSWERS to these Questions with of course some ADDITIONAL OBSERVATIONS. I hope you find them helpful and informative.

1. IS BRITAIN BROKEN, WHY & WHO BROKE IT

1. It was broken when I got here! – (by the fall).
2. All countries are broken and we all have contributed to that in some way.
3. We have lost our Christian / our Biblical heritage.
4. Family Breakdown – there is also a wider family breakdown – remember, the family bond includes strangers.
5. Britain is full of empty people &
1. People are filling their spiritual emptiness with anything but Jesus.
6. People are Selfish.
7. People are Greedy.
8. People expect something for nothing .

1. We have bred a Jeremy Kyle society which has now taken over.
8. There is a lack of respect for everyone and everything except SELF nobody respects anything.
9. People are broken hearted.
10. Nobody (especially the Government)  wants to upset anyone – so society is too PC and therefore not addressing issues.
11. Not everyone knows Jesus.

2. IS THE CHURCH RELEVENT?

1. Ah -Only when I am relevant
2. Ah -The church is relevant when it is meeting people’s needs
3. YES! The church loves people because of their love of God
4. NO -It has become too socially orientated
1. It is making noises but not connecting in real social action?
5. NO -Times have moved on

1. So,  the Church needs take into account more opinions of the younger generation
5. NO-Young people don’t consider eternity
6. NO- It too focussed on maintaining itself
7. NO-The church is operating within its own structural limitations
8. NO-The church needs to exist outside of four walls and four wall structure
9. NO-It is too focussed on getting people INTO the church
10. NO-Leaders are not good role models

3. IS THE BIBLE RELEVENT

 

4. IS PREACHING RELEVENT AND HOW CAN WE BETTER PREACH?

1. We need to be exemplary messengers
2. Preaching must be from the heart
1. make sure YOU  believe it
2. MEAN IT
3. DON’T BE A SALESMAN
3. Be open
4. Be honest and down to earth
5. Engage with people where they are
6. Don’t force it upon people

1. Don’t be ‘in your face’
2. Don’t ram it down people’s throat
6. Listen to people’s opinion and invite people to consider
7. Answer the questions being asked
8. Have an intellectual response
9. Use new language for a new generation
10. Remember, people need something to cling onto
11. Never Judge – this is THE most unacceptable sin
12. If you do – prefix everything with “The Bible says –“ or  ?”God in the Bible says”

5. HOW CAN WE FIX BRITAIN?

1. The answer to broken Britain is a change of heart.
2. Youngsters need CHRISTIAN education in Schools.
3. We need a revival of the Sunday School Movement.
4. The church brings structure in bringing communities together with a common purpose.
5. Government is providing social welfare instead of richer church volunteers (Thatcherism).

Servants ALL

Servants are almost always available. Leaders rarely are.

It was my privilege during this 66 Day Tour of the UK’s 66 Cities, to be able to gain access to some of our leading Civic dignitaries, most of which, quite frankly, were FAR MORE  available and accessible than any of our conservative Evangelical leaders and churches.

No matter their past, their current connectivity or their political persuasion, I was singularly impressed by their work ethic, impartiality, service and love of their cities. It was inspiring! So much so, that I think every Church leadership course in every Christian institution should pay to send their students to spend a day with any of our Mayors and especially to see the background workings of all our democratic local council political functions. We could learn an awful lot. Indeed, it would do us good to extend an annual invitation to each Mayor at the end of their term of service to come and speak to the student body about serving the community.
